Live From The Jungle

Have you ever felt like there just has to be some artist out there who appeals to all your senses? Someone whose words and rhythms you can relate to? Someone who brings back the true definition of R&B? Well, there is someone out there for you. But the truth is you will have to dig deeper to find this type of artist because as we all know today it's all about catchy music and the hoopla of who is fashionable and who is the bigger diva. For that reason my friends, I recommend to you Teedra Moses, oh so slept on, but someone you MUST listen to. Caution! If you want bubble gum music, corny lyrics, and if you have an immature ear and can't handle sultriness then this is not the type of music for you. But for all the YOUNG [LIONESS]ES and fellas out there, take heart to this singer.

Beginner songs: Be Your Girl, You Already Know ft. Lil Wayne, You'll Never Find ft. Jadakiss

Smooth: Take Me Ft. Raphael Saadiq, Rescue Me

I see great things happening for this guy. I don't know if I'm reaching too far, but Kid Cudi has this underdog quality about him that I like. Clearly he has talent- at times I'm not all the way sold but HEYYY that happens. Hearing other people totally bash this guy has drawn my attention and I figured I'd download A Kid Name Cudi and Dat Kid From Cleveland to see for myself. Not bad, not bad at all! Can't dismiss him as of yet, at least he's not Charles Hamilton :-@. I'm excited about the new school of rappers on the rise. But if you haven't already, cop Man on the Moon.

The People

Who else is tired of hearing Cory Booker talk it but not walk it!?

Even though there is truth to the high level of crime and violence that the city of Newark, New Jersey faces, it makes me sad and angry to see my city depicted like it's a wasteland when a lot of what needs to change is people's attitudes towards the city. Yes, there's poverty and there's violence stemming from gang activity and drugs. But people make it seem like Newark is the worst fucking place in the world!!! There's certainly poverty and violence in other major cities across the U.S., but why is it made out to be so horrific in Newark to the point where people are turning their backs on such a great city?? It needs to be made clear that not everybody is a product of their environment. I can think of plenty people who grew up in Newark and have done wonderful things in their lives( The Three Doctors,Savion Glover, Amiri & Ras Baraka,Lauryn Hill,Shaquille O'neal,ETC). I grew up in Newark, went to a deprived school district, sat in disbelief as someone I knew personally was killed along with others, have friends and family who live in the city, and somehow I will have a college degree by December. This needs to stop! Let's see if this documentary will do anything to change the perception of Newark.

Watch on Monday, September 21, at 10:00 p.m. on the Sundance channel.
